However it is only possible to replace one jewel in an equipment piece only once. Utilizing more jewels in a move will make it feel smoother and is typically used to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. Apart from improving performance, the diamonds create an outer layer that is more durable than metal, so repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause harm as easily. A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the appearance of your shields and weapons. These provide a small bonus and can be swapped freely but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. They can be obtained in the beginning areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, or by performing road interactions. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers. The first trinket a player unlocks will be the cloak. It grants a small but useful bonus in speed of movement and evasion. The player can then acquire necklaces, amulets, and rings in a similar fashion to how they acquired weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets. These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows the hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It also helps compensate for the absence of excellent slots in the team or talent tree that are normally filled by a hero's top stats. As a general rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace anytime soon. Then, you should consider any items with desirable stats that aren't as important as the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is true especially if you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It is best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.
